We only have one more week left (Sunday Feb 21) at our current meeting location.

Family Grounds Cafe has served us incredibly well over the past several months. We are BIG fans of the owners and the venue. But we’ve reached capacity and need to move on already.

On Feb 28, Destination Churches Chicago dream will come true! We are renting the ComedySportz Theatre located at 929 West Belmont Ave, 60657.

Here is what’s awesome about the venue:

It seats about 150 people, but still feels intimate.

We have a good space for our kids and nursery work.

They have audio/visual equipment we can use.

It’s located off one of the busiest L stops in the city which means we’ll get a lot of visibility.

It’s just a few buildings East of the Belmont Red & Brown lines which makes it highly accessible.

There is a parking garage just around the corner who are working out a deal for us.

As a church we should consider the 28th to be a practice run, we’ll make mistakes, we’ll realize things we’ll need to tweak. But, then we’ll be ready to begin our next teaching series the following Sunday March 7. Get ready for our series titled RELATE: Growing in success with people.

This venue change gives us a great reason to invite and celebrate the next phase of Destination Church in Chicago.

This experience will help you understand Destination Churches culture, vision, values and give you an opportunity to help us build communities that are loyal to Jesus. The class is not a membership commitment in itself. It is an opportunity to find out more.

God has called and gifted each of us to play an active role in serving others. Growth happens best when we use our God given time and energy to benefit those God has placed around us. Membership is about becoming all that you can be in God and taking your role as a disciple more seriously.

If you are not going please pray for God to get a hold of our hearts and give us a vision for planting reproducing churches in the top 100 cities of the USA. I’d also encourage you to not take the weekend off but use it to build relationships with people God has connected you to.

I’m looking forward to our next gathering as we continue our current teaching series PIONEERS: People That Change The World on Sunday January 24th. Don’t miss it!

Don’t miss PIONEERS:

I can then send you our address if you don’t have it.

Because we think people are awesome, we dedicate a lot of time to building community. We often don’t realize how hungry we are for relationships until we encounter them. We want to start 2010 with the mindset of an outward focused community. I’ll spend a short time running through some of our basic plans for 2010 and we’ll establish some prayer goals for the year.

All are welcome. There are no official kids activities planned so parents will be responsible for their children. It’s going to be a fun atmosphere.

One of our kids volunteers recently heard a new child say to her Mom that she wanted to come back to Destination the next week. Guess what, they came back! Now that was encouraging.

Heather and I put our two boys in Destination Kids every Sunday and they love it. The Bible based DVD and craft program we use is top notch and has provided a clear structure for kids to thrive and learn about God.

Our goal is to make Sunday morning the highlight of the week for each child. We want to create an environment where children rave about their experience and plead with their parents to return the following week.

One of our constant points of prayer as a church has been to ask God to provide somebody who has the passion and skills to take our kids work to the next level — to really up the stakes. With our recent growth, and our plans to continue to grow, we are aware that our kids program needs to expand as the church does. We are praying for someone with a vision for children to grow in God.

Do you know someone who is gifted in this way? Are you? If so, what are you waiting for? God has provided an incredible ministry opportunity for you to thrive and to influence the future success of the gospel in Chicago! As a church we are committed to raising our kids in the city and teaching them to love it. We love this city, and we want our kids to as well.

Are you our children’s coordinator? If you think you are, go ahead and email or call me 773.789.7071 — we’ve been praying for you.

In 2009 we started something very cool! A month long internship focused on evangelism. We gathered 8 young guys from around the US and hit the streets (in a positive way). We surveyed close to 600 people and had incredible opportunities to pray and share. Those who participated experienced one of the hardest 4 weeks of their Christian walk, but one of the most rewarding and growing.

We have made some tweaks for the 2010 internship to make it even more fruitful. If you have 4 weeks this summer and you want to accelerate your spiritual development, then apply for the Summer Internship. It WILL change your perspective, deepen your heart for the lost and give you the confidence you’ve always wanted to effectively engage with the unchurched in a natural way.

So how will the internship work? I’m glad you asked!

We’ll focus on running a number of booths at festivals over weekends, which will be the bulk of the work. And, then we’ll follow up during the week in personal ways with those who requested more information about the church. Festivals provide a natural context to engage about spiritual matters and collect contact details. Unfortunately, many of the simple evangelism methods of the past no longer work in our culture. Street preaching is a BIG no-no, door-to-door barely works. But, engaging in continual surveying at summer festivals with 100’s of people provides a powerful and relevant method to connect people to Jesus and His church.

If you are a regular or member of Destination Church please add these weekends to your calendar: July 26th – August 22nd, 2010

Please spread the word. If you happen to know of any potential interns or if you are considering it yourself, waste no more time, apply now.
